This symposium has been organized within the framework of the objectives of the millennium for development by the UNESCO’s International Hydrologic Programme.
Water and energy are essential resources for improving or maintaining the living conditions of humankind. Their availability must grow during the next decades, to fulfill the needs created by an ever increasing world demography, and a necessary sustainable economic development. It is therefore essential to look for efficient strategies regarding organization, management and governance, taking into account the
socio-cultural aspects and the legitimate aspirations of emerging, developing or developed countries.
