| Organization: | Women in Europe for a Common Future, Germany |
| Summary: | Women in Europe for a Common Future (WECF) is a network of organizations and individuals working for sustainable development, protection of human health and environment and poverty reduction. Our international network consists of members and partners in 30 countries in Western and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. WECF aims to:
- Help women to actively take part in making their communities healthier and more sustainable. We develop practical solutions to problems relating to health and the environment, with the help of trusted experts and scientists.
- Raise awareness of root causes of environmental health effects and promotes preventative action to eliminate problems at the source.
- Strengthen the participation of women in decision making at local, national and international level.
- Build knowledge and capacity through skill shares, surveys and training programmes.
- Draw attention to difficult issues. We work for improvements where there are health threats or social injustice related to the environment. WECF proposes solutions and asks politicians to take action
The organization of Women in Europe for a Common Future consists of five working groups:
- Health and Environment, concerns chemicals, radioactive waste, heavy metals and the impact on our health.
- Water and Sanitation, monitors the development and implementation of the EU Water Initiative and organizes information and exchanges experiences on drinking water problems and solutions (eco-sanitation, rain harvesting and other low cost technical solutions affordable for communities).
- Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development, concerns all aspects of sustainable farming and sustainable rural development.
- Energy and Climate Change, concerns the human dimensions of climate change and energy use.
- Gender and Sustainable Development, concerns women and sustainability. The gender issue remains essential for sustainable development.
