1st anniversary of the launch of Aquawareness and the Water Vision for EuropeJun 30th, 2009 | filed under: EWP News
Exactely one year ago, on 30th June 2008, dozens of stakeholders were “dropping their thought” when Aquawareness, the European Water Awareness and Water Stewardship Programme were launched together with the Water Vision for Europe within the premises of the European Parliament in Brussels.
Calling it an “excellent and timely initiative” (European Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Stavros Dimas), “a crucial driver in order to strive for sustainable water management” (European Parliament President, Mr. Hans-Gert Pöttering), “supporting an efficient implementation of EU legislation on water and the aquatic environment while also improving business competitiveness and the quality of the local environment” (Slovenian Minister fort he Environment, Mr. Janez Podobnik),“setting an example in the right direction” (MEP Richard Seeber), this event developed into a serious of projects currently undertaken within the framework of Aquawareness.

Projects
Aquawareness
Currently PIXYZ is creating the first episodes of the vision animation. This vision animation, based on the vision text will translate complex water issues into easily understandable everyday terms visualizing what to do to become a sustainable and water conscious citizen.
Climate Change Adaptation
Around Europe, numerous activities are undertaken on Climate Change Adaptation and Water. However, coordination and cooperation between these projects is mostly lacking, which causes a lot of potential to be unused. Sharing of experiences and best practices is clearly needed by setting up a European Dialogue which will focus on raising awareness, exchanging experiences and best practices between all stakeholders. It will be a focal point for coordination in Europe, as well as towards the outside world.
European Water House
Based on the principles of the Water Vision for Europe, the European Water House is being established as to make it visible and applicable, to demonstrate that working together with private and public structures, local, regional, national and European institutions may turn these principles into a coherent reality for a sustainable future. It will be the venue where concepts, policies and debates are presented in a concrete visible manner, demonstrating the vast potential of appropriate water technology and its practical and educational applications.
